The total count of fatalities due to the UPS cargo plane which ignited and went down has risen to 13, according to latest reports.
Official's Remarks
“On my way to the Teamsters’ memorial service, I received word of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a consequence of the UPS flight 2976 crash,” stated the city mayor in a social media post. “My thoughts are with the loved ones, companions and peers of all who were taken in this week’s disaster. We will get through this together.”
Victims Named
A release from the company identified the officers on board the aircraft as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.
“Our thoughts reach out to each staff member who has been impacted and all in our community area – assisting you and guaranteeing you get the care and aid you need is our main concern,” the organization’s message expressed.
Investigation Findings
Federal officials disclosed that the UPS cargo plane’s port side wing burst into flames and an engine fell off soon after takeoff from the aviation hub, leading to the aircraft to crash and burst into a fireball.
The NTSB announced it is examining the jet’s service record, which was in the state for fixes weeks before the incident.
Aviation records indicated the plane was on the ground in San Antonio, Texas from early September to last week.
“We are cognizant that this plane was located in that city,” remarked an investigator on Thursday, without a exact time frame. “We will review every piece of repairs that was performed, from the San Antonio time, right up to the date of the journey.”
Findings of Key Components
The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were found, and the engine was discovered on the airfield.
The devices – called flight recorders – were built to withstand crash impacts and severe fire from blazes, and they appeared to be intact when located amid the wreckage. Investigators plan on analyzing data from the black boxes.
Jet’s final recorded information indicated an elevation of 475 feet and a rate of that speed prior to the accident.
Service History
According to FAA files from 18 September, a fissure on a structural piece within the center wing fuel tank needed maintenance.
Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which said it offers structural repairs for the carrier’s jet and runs a repair facility in that city, chose not to speak, but said it would cooperate fully when officials reached out it.
Services Resume
Meanwhile, the hub activities continued Wednesday night with its Next Day Air also known as evening process, spokesperson the company official said. All three tarmacs at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also open again.
The UPS package handling facility in Louisville is the firm’s most significant. The center hires over 20,000 people in the area, manages three hundred trips each day and sorts over a huge volume of parcels per hour.
Public Reaction
A gathering was organized on the evening of 6 November by the local Teamsters Union, which supports staff at the Louisville airport, the company’s largest air cargo hub.
Teamsters Local 89, which supports UPS workers, started the memorial with a quiet tribute at that time, the approximate time of the crash two days earlier.
“This event was so sudden, so unforeseen,” the official spoke to the assembly of attendees. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to any one of those who we have said farewell to.”
